Underwriters Laboratories (UL) has announced the expansion of its anti-counterfeit labeling program, and will soon require the global use of holographic marks for an expanded range of electrical and electronic products.
A number of Nationally Recognized Testing Laboratories (NRTLs) require the use of holographic labeling to reduce confusion with counterfeit marks on high-risk products originating in China.
UL currently requires the use of holographic marks on many electrical and electronic products produced in China, and globally on a limited number of product categories, including decorative lighting and seasonal and holiday decorative products.
However, as of July 1, 2009, UL’s gold holographic marks will be required globally on all new production in a number of key product categories, including cord sets and power supply cords, electrical and ceiling fans, LEDs, night lights, general purpose power supplies and Class 2 and 3 transformers.
The complete list of product categories requiring the use of UL holographic marks as of July 1, 2009 can be viewed at http://www.ul.com/global/eng/pages/corporate/aboutul/ulmarks/hologram/
